Investing - Blue Bell Community Hub

The Community has bought the Blue Bell, but you can still share in our Pub at the Heart of the South Downs National Park

The Cocking Community Hub Share Offer has received a fantastic response from Cocking Blue Bell Community Hub - Cocking, West Sussexresidents with over 90 households from across the village investing so far as well as support from surrounding communities. The Church has also purchased a significant number of shares – in total we have over 150 investors. This enabled the community to buy the Blue Bell on 30th April 2019.

Community Share Offer and Donations

We are now extending the Share Offer to allow others, who may have wanted to see how the project progresses before deciding to be part, the chance to invest. The funds raised will be used, alongside grant applications, towards the refurbishment of the building.

Just as a reminder shares are priced at £50 each and there is a minimum shareholding of five shares, meaning a total £250 investment, but groups of friends and family members can come together to achieve the minimum holding.

Donations no matter how small or large would be very welcome in this final stage of our campaign as would be any form of fund raising

The aim of the project is to engage with the community and to date this has been one of our major successes.

You can download an Application for Shares and Donations form at the bottom of this page or contact us for a leaflet and paper application form at

The Blue Bell Community Hub Refurbishment Fund

The total refurbishment cost is £160,000 (increased by £10,000 due to extra works needed for the toilets and front door disabled access) and the balance of this will be achieved through further Community Share sales, donations, grants, other investors and community fundraising events.

Blue Bell Community Hub - Cocking, West SussexAbout the Blue Bell

The Blue Bell in Cocking is a popular watering hole right in the centre of the South Downs National Park and the South Downs Way, just south of Midhurst, West Sussex.

We’re trying to save it and turn it into a Community Hub with a restaurant/café, B&B, shop, Visitor Gateway for the South Down National Park and, when our current Post Master retires, accommodate the Post Office.

We need to raise funds to make this possible so we can serve not only the needs of the villagers and those around us but also all those that enjoy the amenities of the South Downs National Park. It will place emphasis on the social needs of the village making it a true community asset, giving Cocking a greater sense of place that will welcome all.

Its walks, historic landscape and spectacular views, cyclists both on and off road, Goodwood motor racing at the Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival, its horse racing including Glorious Goodwood, those on their way our famous Festival Theatre in Chichester or those going to and fro to the coast or just going about their business or on a day out.

We’ll be there for everyone
