The Blue Bell at Cocking opened for one night only on Friday 17th May to celebrate the purchase of the pub which is now owned by the community. The pub was filled all evening with chatter and laughter when a large number of local residents, young and old, gathered to raise a glass to the future of the Blue Bell Community Hub and to support the campaign to raise the extra funds now needed to refurbish the building. There is still a lot of work to do before the Blue Bell can open as the new Hub for the community and we still need to find that special person, or people, who as tenant will enjoy working with us to bring life back into the village.
A big thank you to all who volunteered clearing the garden and cleaning the pub getting it ready for a live broadcast on BBC South Today, and to the many who came along to buy a drink and join in the celebration. The next pop-up pub is being planned already.
A very special thank you to the following Langham Brewery for suppling the bitter, the Crafty Pint for supply the glasses, Paul Henshaw for collecting drinks and sundries, Linda Henshaw for making the sausage rolls, the Woolley family for allowing us to use the original pub sign, Ross Laney for taking the photographs, Caron Buckingham-Rhyder for helping out behind the bar and the Redshaw family for topping up the drinks when we ran out.
The next Pop Up Pub is being planned already.
